Tyre Pressure: Why the Right Air Pressure Matters

The correct tyre pressure is crucial for driving safety, fuel consumption and tyre wear. Too little pressure increases rolling resistance, generates heat and can damage the tyre casing. Too much pressure reduces the contact area, worsens traction and increases the risk of a blowout.

The recommended tyre pressure is shown on the fuel flap or door frame of the vehicle. It depends on the load and tyre size. Experts recommend checking tyre pressure at least once a month and before long journeys – preferably in the morning with cold tyres.

Modern vehicles are equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that warns of significant pressure loss. However, the system cannot always detect small pressure deviations. Therefore, check the pressure manually on a regular basis.
